Do age gaps in relationships matter?

The consensus among relationship experts is that age in a relationship is far less significant than most of us might assume. Research on the relationship between the life stages of the couple is key. Everyone's life and relationship experience will be different — a person's lifestyle and outlook can be as important, if not more so, than age differences.

So, while a significant age difference might raise societal eyebrows, it doesn't necessarily translate to an unequal or incompatible relationship. Open communication, shared values, life stages, and a strong emotional bond can bridge an age gap just as effectively (many people who are vastly different ages maintain strong, fulfilling relationships) that you can also have fun when there's an age gap between you.
