How many cups are in a pound?
The conversion from pounds to cups will change depending on the ingredient. Using a weight-to-volume ratio for all purpose flour (125g per cup), one pound is approximately 3.63 US cups of all purpose flour.
If you are converting between cups and pounds for a different ingredient, remember that the cups figure will change depending on how dense the ingredient is. For instance, 1 lb of butter is just over 2 cups, while 1 lb of sugar is approximately 2.27 cups. The density of the ingredient determines the conversion factor, as not all ingredients weigh the same.
The tables below have been compiled from a wide variety of kitchen and baking conversion sources. Please be aware that these conversions will only work for the US cup. Different countries' cups will produce slightly different results, so I'd always recommend using a weighing set if possible, particularly for baking.
